Reno Reunion

Well, we made it!  We are finally home after our whirlwind trip to Reno.  As mentioned in our last post, we were headed out for our nephew’s high school graduation.  Which turned out to be a family reunion on more than one count.  Not only did we get to see the majority of Marc’s immediate and extended family, but we finally met Karma’s sister Hana!  We were also able to take Marc’s Dad out to dinner and celebrate an early Fathers Day…we definitely packed a LOT into our quick trip.

Friday, we mostly just visited with family, exercised the dogs, and did a little shopping.  We found this great dog park in Sparks that actually dead ends into the marina!  Halo was in heaven!  She is such a swimmer, at one point we thought she might actually try and swim all the way across the lake!  Luckily, she has decent recall, and we were able to call her off the gaggle of geese she was swimming after.  We also checked out the factory store for Pet Edge.  Some of you may have ordered from their catalog/internet site before.  It was awesome to go in!  They also had a clearance on dog apparel and we found two new shirts for Karma to wear to Children’s (requirement) for only $2 each!  They retail for about $25 each, so it was quite a score.

We had plans to meet Brenda and Hana at 6:00 at a dog park in Carson.  It seemed to take all day to roll around!  When it was finally time, we had so much fun!  We were able to get several pictures of the girls and really get a feeling for Hana’s personality.  You can definitely tell they are littermates — almost equal in size and very similar facial features.  Most noticeably is their hunting instincts, both were pacing the far side of the dog park trying to get access to the brush.  Brenda let us know that they have a lot of indigenous quail and chukar around there — no fooling our girls!  Luckily, we had the park to ourselves almost the entire time too.

After our visit with Hana, we dropped the pups back at Marc’s Mom’s house and headed out to meet his Dad for dinner.  Nothing like walking through a casino to get to a fancy restaurant!  Dinner was great and the company was better.

Saturday was the event!  Jenny was up early to buy flowers and make the arrangements, Marc helped decorate the house, and then it was time for graduation!  Marc went to medical school at Nevada (where graduation was held,) so he was definitely reminiscing at all of the campus surrounding.  Bars where his band played and all the buildings he took classes in.  He was even a good sport and posed for some pictures in front of the marquee.

After the ceremony, we headed back to throw the party!  But before too much partying was going to happen, we needed to get our puppies exercised.  Back to the marina we went!  And after a good 1.5 hours of swimming and running around, we headed back.  The planned worked well, the dogs were much more mellow and spent time socializing with the party-goers and napping.

Yesterday morning, we had time for breakfast with the family before we needed to hit the road.  Our destination was Provo (Jenny had to work there today) so we stopped at dog park in Reno before heading out, and then finished the driving day with the park in Sandy, UT again.  We are lucky the dogs travel so well — but being conscious of their exercise needs definitely helps!

Today, we finished the road trip home after Jenny’s appointments in Provo.  It was a beautiful drive…and boy, is it nice to be home 🙂
