Boy are we exhausted! The last four days have have been long, but totally worth it! Jenny’s Mom (Grandma Carol as she is known to the pups!) even came out to spectate at the AKC’s largest dog show weekend.
We spent the days cheering on our pups ringside, cheering for friends in their respective breed rings, watching some groups, competing in agility, trying out for a Canine Good Citizen title, and shopping! While Jenny is usually the big spender, this time Grandma Carol was the big spender and picked up her very own show dog at the dog show! After YEARS of research, she had finally decided the Border Terrier was the dog for her, and it just so happens there was a breeder coming to the show who had a pick show puppy who needed a home. After three days of visiting with the puppy, having different handlers do some evaluations, grooming lessons, and temperament testing — Mungo came home! He has been the best little dog — and after watching Jenny do agility and watching the dogs show, Carol is super excited about her new dog show hobby!
The highlight of the weekend was getting Karma’s first “Q” in Agility! Karma qualified in Novice JWW and even got those weave poles on her very first try! This was really exciting — after trying to compete at Nationals last year, we realized Karma totally wasn’t confident on her weaves. This totally *SUCKED* — Karma was so great at everything else! And she weaved at home, she weaved in class — what was going on in competition?! Several of the new friends we made around the agility ring suggested we take a 2×2 class. If you are reading this right, you will realize we had to start all over. Luckily, we found a class (thank you Ginger & Heather!), but unluckily, the start date got pushed back to mid-January. Karma took to 2×2 training immediately, it was more than exciting, and somehow she was weaving 6 poles by this weekend.
The jumpers run was great…only one refusal — you guessed it handling error! Jenny accidently cut a corner too sharply and pulled Karma off a jump, but we were able to recover, get the jump back and finish in 36 seconds with a 95! This was good enough for 2nd place — smoked by a Border Collie which we were told we need to get used to 🙂 You can watch her video by clicking here – thanks to Dale & Katherine for the video!
Her standard run was beautiful — but Jenny was trying to beat said Border Collie and got too far ahead of Karma on the A-frame, which Karma took as a signal that she could skip the contact. Dang!! We wanted that QQ! Luckily, Katherine & Krista were right outside the ring to cheer us up, give us huge hugs, and tell us how BEAUTIFUL our WEAVES were 🙂 Then, as we made it up into the stands, complete strangers told us how impressive our run was!! It was awesome — agility people are SO nice! We are SO hooked!
Indy had his share of glory, getting a ton of applause as he hit the ring for Best Veteran Dog three days and he and Kelli even made the cut one day!! Not bad considering the 2011 Vizsla Club of America National Best in Specialty Show dog (Mason) was in the ring! We were proud to be among such great company. The best day was Saturday when Indy went Best Veteran in Sweeps and got this huge, beautiful ribbon and a very cool camo crate pad! Thank you to the Rocky Mountain Vizsla Club and the ribbon sponsor Ginger Sammonds for the opportunity and the great prizes! Karma had a good day at the specialty too going Reserve to the Major (her 9th RWB, 7th to a major) so she got some really pretty ribbons too 🙂
Karma also added a few letters to her name this weekend by passing her Canine Good Citizen test! We did Indy’s last August and wanted to make Karmie an official good citizen too — pretty fun!
Gosh — what a weekend! We competed in conformation, agility, and tested for a CGC. We got to spend time with all our Vizsla friends (too many to name!), plus a fun dinner with Pat, Jake, and Tim. We loved getting to see Mary (Indy’s first Mom — worked with Marc and raised Indo in her office!) and Darci. And most fun was the agility arena!! Thanks to Sheryl, Dale & Katherine, Krista, Sarah (our amazing “weavas” trainer), and of course, or partner in crime — Heather! Also big congrats to Karma’s girlfriend Penny who finished her Championship with Erica this weekend — it was super exciting to share in the joy! Glad Molly & Jason can know focus on a very exciting new chapter in their lives 🙂
OH! We should also mention that Piper Sniper got to make an appearance at the Colorado/Wyoming Vizsla Rescue Group’s Meet the Breed session. We hear she has a home very interested in her! Keep your fingers crossed for a happy ending 🙂
Ok. Seriously tired. Until next year Plum Creek & Colorado Kennel Club!
