Lately, we have been wondering when we would have another opportunity to foster another Vizsla for Colorado/Wyoming Vizsla Rescue Group. About a month ago, we got a call that there was a female that needed a home after a messy divorce, but it turned out that the individuals were able to work out an arrangement for their V. Glad that it all worked out for the dog, we went back to wondering if there would be another Vizsla we could help any time soon.
This past Friday, we got the call. Rita Prindle (CWVRG CEO) would be driving back from Kansas with five Vizslas that would need foster homes. Two were puppies and the other three were adults. We know puppies usually get adopted quickly, so we offered to take one of the adults. Rita would arrive on Monday with our Vizsla foster, but luckily, our local Vizsla club was having a hunt test, so the weekend would go by quickly.
The hunt test went really well. In fact, Karma’s littermate, Zeke, earned his Master Hunter title! And as he marched off the field with Pat, we brought Karma out so he could rough house with his favorite sister. Pat was on such a high, it was really cool to be able to celebrate their huge accomplishment. Jill (Karma’s quasi-breeder) was in town, so after the hunt test wrapped up on Saturday we went out to dinner with Jill, Steffie, and Zach & Clare (they own Gauge, Karmie’s half brother) and celebrated the great day. Then we headed back to the house early as Jill had a really early flight to get to in the morning.
Sunday, Marc took Jill to the airport, while Jenny headed down to the second day of the VCC hunt test. It was another great day, cheering on our friends, many of whom were enjoying their very first hunt test.
After a long Sunday, we went to bed with anticipation of getting our foster. Jenny didn’t think Monday would ever end. Rita would be arriving around 5 into the Denver area, where Jenny would meet her and pick up our girl.
When Vanessa was released from the crate, it was velcro at first site! She totally attached herself and didn’t even want a potty break before heading to her new (temporary) home. When we got home, Jenny took caution introducing Vanessa to Indy, as we heard she might not be found of males. Looking at her teats, we don’t blame her for having an issue with intact males! But she was fine with Indy and didn’t even let out a snarl. Just goes to show what a sweet boy our Indy is — even Vanessa could tell 🙂 Anyway, introductions with Schmav and Karma went equally well. When Marc got home, Vanessa ran to the door to great him and all he said was, “Oh boy, you are such a sweet girl. I’m gonna fall in love with you too.”
