This is the email we saw in our inboxes yesterday:
Yesterday we picked up a 1-2 yr old female V from a local shelter. The shelter called me and asked if I could take her, she had a spiral fracture in her left tibia & fibula. The shelter couldn’t do anything until her hold time was up. Her hold time was up so we picked her up and took her immediately to the hospital. Her surgery is being done this afternoon with 6 weeks of quiet time. With our discount, her surgery is estimated at $1500.
The lady who found her is a real saint. She has collected $800 in donations for her surgery. So, I am asking you for any help you are willing to give. One thing I really need is foster care for her during her rehab. Hopefully some of you in the Denver area are willing to help with fostering, just let me know.
This email came from Rita, CEO and Founder of our local Vizsla rescue organization, Colorado/Wyoming Vizsla Rescue Goup, Inc. It took us about 30 seconds to text back and forth (Jenny is working in Aspen this week) and agree that we wanted to offer to foster her. Marc called Rita, and she happily gave him the details on picking up our new little foster.
Today, after surgery to fix her spiral fracture (tib-fib!), Marc was waiting to pick her up and bring her home. She has been skiddish all night. We think she’s a little freaked out at having full reign of the house. We think she must have been a full time outdoor dog — poor girl, Colorado gets cold!
Renata has 6 weeks of quiet time in her future to fully heal after surgery. We will use the opportunity to socialize her to household items and people, and to complete her foundation training. It should be a fun few months, check back to see how she progresses 🙂
