Oh. My. Goodness. Apparently, when Kathy Rust calls and tells you she has a special puppy for you, you outta believe her. We are shocked, amazed, and absolutely thrilled to announce that our Baby Halo just picked up her FIRST MAJOR!
And to think we almost didn’t enter! This was a busy weekend for us, we are doing a remodel on our yard, Marc was on call, and Jenny was on a waiting list for an agility trial. To top it off, Jenny won a photo contest and the prize was tickets to the Avs game yesterday. Since Marc had to work a half-day on Saturday, we decided to just enter Halo on Sunday. While it would make for a busy weekend, we really thought she needed more ring-time before Nationals.
Saturday was a bunch of fun. We were joined at the Avs game by our friends Tim & Robi, and our friends Krista and Allen had tickets just three rows in front of us! It was an exciting game, topped off with a buzzer-beater to win it for the Avs! Then it was back home to finish our yard make-over. Basically, we decided to make a dog run rather than try to re-grow grass all summer. We have it about 80% finished and it looks great! Just need to build some planters, and it will be complete!
Sunday, Jenny took off early for agility and Marc got up equally early to take Halo on a run. Getting her wahoos out seems to really help her concentrate — a little lesson we learned in Garden City. Then he headed up to the show ring with our baby girl. Remember, we were just thinking this was going to be good ring practice — no expectations. Instead, we had the best day ever! Marc and Halo won her class, then went WB (with very talented handlers in the ring — one pro and two breeder/handlers,) and finished out her day going Best of Winners for a 3 POINT MAJOR!!! She is only 7 months old! Eeek!! A huge thank you to judge Nikki Riggsbee for finding Marc and Baby Halo!
Funny enough — most of our agility friends were actually at the show ring this weekend. Ginger is showing Chaz for Steve and Mary and Katherine is showing Barsoom. Marc said all of our agility friends were super supportive. Ginger was helping him keep Halo entertained and gave him better bait to use so Halo wasn’t playing tug with the bait. Steve was filming every time Halo stepped in the ring, and captured the day perfectly so Jenny could catch up tonight. Marc said it was really cool to have everyone supporting him and genuinely congratulating him afterwards.
So our Baby gets to cross a goal off her list! We did NOT expect this to happen so early in the year, so we are going to add another major to her goal list 🙂
