September 20, 2009 was a date we’ve been looking forward to for a LONG time. The process of getting a puppy can be very straining on the heart, and after nine long months of anticipation we were finally given the best gift we could’ve dreamed of, Karma.
Marc and Jenny started looking to get a puppy back in December of 2008. Schmav and Indy were going to be four and five in 2009, and we felt it was time to add a little girl to our pack. We put in inquiries and had our names on several lists with breeders we really respect with upcoming litters. The girls in the litters ended up being so nice that the breeder decided to keep them, or the opposite, they didn’t show interest in birds or had a fault for conformation. With heavy hearts we passed (or were passed up) on several litters, but we knew the breeders knew what was best for us and truly appreciated their candidness about their girls.
Exciting news came this past summer when Jill Hoffbeck (Cruiser Vizslas), and Ron and Sue Moller reached out to Tad’s boy Tok sire a litter with their girl Holly. Tad had seen Holly at a show back East and thought she was beautiful, and after carefully studying their pedigrees, AND with the blessing of Tok’s breeders Jaime Walton and Bev Wanjon, Tok’s swimmers were overnighted to Minnesota.
Karma and her litter-mates, Zeke and Hana were born on July 23rd. How we made it the last two months is beyond comprehension. We couldn’t get enough updates or photos, but at the same time, we did our very best not to get too excited given our track record with puppies so far this year. Yesterday, Tad flew out to Minnesota to do the litter evaluations. It was decided that Marc and Jenny should stay home, because at this point we could no longer be objective as we wanted a puppy SO badly. Tad called that evening and let us know that he didn’t think either of the girls were going to be right for us. Jenny about died. Marc explained to Tad how upset she was and Tad had to break his surprise – he thought Karma was perfect and had her in his hotel room, ready for the flight home the next morning. Although it would have been wonderful to have Tad ring the doorbell with Karma the next day (when Jenny was expecting him to come back empty handed), she slept much better last night knowing that Karma was on her way – FINALLY!
We’ve decided her registered name will be Diamond Cruiser 5280’s Reap What You Sow. Diamond is the Moller’s kennel name, Cruiser is Jill’s (Holly’s breeder), and 5280 as we are hopeful that some day she might just be our foundation bitch.
