Indy all ready to track! Once we start tracking we switch the leash from his collar to his harness. It helps give the signal that it’s time to work!
Well, Indy is a month out of surgery and doing great! Since Karma didn’t have any agility or hunt tests this weekend, Jenny decided to meet up with some friends who were going to be out tracking. Last New Years, Jenny took all the pups out for an intro tracking lesson, and they LOVED it! It seemed like a perfect way to perk up our boy who has been on some serious exercise restriction.
Since our friends were training at Chatfield State park (PS. Colorado dog people, do you know about this place?!) Marc came too and headed to the off leash dog area with the girls and Schmavy.
We started off watching our friends Deb and Cindy run tracks with their girls. They are both working at the more advanced levels and it was AMAZING to watch. Not sure we will ever get to that level, or even to a level where we are prepared to try the first level of tracking, but it is definitely something to aspire to achieve.
While Deb and Cindy were running a second track, we headed back to the car with our friend Milan who helped us run some baby tracks with Indy. She said he did awesome! We started off with semi circles. The half circle started in mowed grass with a glove with treats on top. Then Milan walked the semi circle dropping treats every 8 inches or so. The ending glove was back out on the mowed grass and we made it a very exciting jackpot. Indy was good about keeping his nose to the ground, staying on the track, and he really liked the jackpot! For us the tail-tell (forgive the pun) sign he was loving it was his tail. He was flagging it the WHOLE time. Loved seeing him so happy, we are really going to try and do this more than once every 11 months!
