That is really the theme of the weekend. Horse poop. We haven’t been able to do agility in what seemed like forever and the first trial we got into was 2 hours away…never a fun commute with January weather. On top of that Karma hasn’t been able to go to agility class because our awesome trainer has been dealing with some horse-poop-worthy issues. Then our judge for this weekend had to change because she was diagnosed with cancer. Again, horse poop.
However, the weather was nice enough to cooperate so that the 2 hour commute to Latigo wasn’t so bad. And several of our friends were at the trial, so things were looking up! Yesterday, Karma’s standard run was mostly beautiful, minus the dog walk contact, but for being off for several weeks, she was running great. In jumpers, however, she stopped dead in her tracks between jump 2 and 3 to eat…HORSE POOP. Seriously. After she finished her snack she decided to go ahead and smoke the rest of the course. We trial in horse arenas all the time and she has never done that — it totally caught Jenny off guard. Karma was pretty thrilled that she found treats inside the agility ring. Gross.
Today was much better…there were some crazy traps in Standard but Jenny’s handling was right on time and Karma ran all the hard stuff easily. However, we messed up on an easy jump right after the chute that Jenny totally didn’t support, just took it for granted. In jumpers we were finally back in sync and finished the weekend with a Q, 12 MACH points and a 3rd place! Karma has now placed in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in Jumpers — just need that elusive blue ribbon! Honestly, that is next to impossible in the 20” class, but we are going to keep trying.
Karma’s 12 points this weekend put her over 550 points towards her MACH title too 🙂
