We haven’t had an opportunity to run Karmie in any agility stuff since Nationals in September, especially with all the snow we’ve had on the ground 🙁 We were super excited when we found out there was a fun match scheduled for the Saturday and convinced Heather and Gunner to join in! (Gunner is Karma’s first cousin)
Heather was kind enough to open up her home to Jenny and Karm on Friday night, so we wouldn’t have to get up super early to drive to Ft. Collins on Saturday morning. Friday night, Heather opened up a bottle of wine and that’s where all the trouble started — suddenly the bottle was empty and Charlie (Heather’s hubby) had convinced us to design t-shirts for every agility match we run and Heather and Jenny had a goal list. It’s VERY lofty.
Goals for 2012:
-Rally Excellent on Gunner & Indy
-Rally Novice on Karma
-Companion Dog on Gunner & Indy
-Senior Hunter on Gunner & Karma
-Versatile Certificate on Gunner & Indy
-Championship on Karma
-Grand Championship on Gunner & Indy
-And start competing in Agility
No more wine at Heather’s!! We look at that list and just see $$$ dollar signs!! $$$
Today was productive and fun! We got to the A Match super early so that Gunny & Karmie could run first and we could get home. So as soon as the frost was off the turf the games began. Heather’s assignment was to get Gunner to pay attention to her — which he was doing really well by his second run! And the boy’s got ups! Look at the photos below — totally clears those jumps. Our friend Katherine even said he could jump 30’s! The goal with Karma was to brush of the cobwebs on the equipment and get her comfortable with the weaves. All the equipment out was no sweat. The first run we did dog walk and then teeter which is always easier, so the second round we did teeter and then dog walk. Karm was a little hesitant on the teeter the second time, but made it through. Yay! Then weaves –ugh. First time she didn’t get her entrance so Jenny slipped the lead on and worked her trough all 12 weaves (we usually just practice with 6.) The second run Jenny slipped the lead on and Karma went through all 12 on her own — amazing how much confidence that lead gives her! No to just wean her off of it.
After our runs, we hit the indoor pool, which we thought they would love, but they were having none of it. Jenny even put a lifejacket on Karm (she does love to dress up!) but even then she just went to the fence and tried to convince people to let her out. Oh well. Gunner and Karma were still exhausted the rest of the day, so we say it’s a win!
