Well, we are hoping she is a “fit mom!” Her confirmatory ultrasound is just a few weeks away, but we were told she could still do her normal exercise. That meant we headed up to Vail this weekend and let Halo hike to her heart’s content. This is Halo’s favorite thing in life, so hopefully that translates to a healthy pregnancy for the puppies. We want them to be growing in a belly surrounded by happy hormones and not inside the body of stressed an unhappy animal. Maybe that’s a little too voodoo magic for your beliefs, but there is research to suggest that it’ll work. Jenny also takes time every night to stroke Halo’s belly and talk to the little embryos we hope are there.
We also try to practice good sense when hiking. In our pictures, you’ll notice the girls are wearing bells. We call them bear bells. They are pretty efficient at making it impossible for any creature to have us sneak up on them. They slide on and off their collars and we have to say, it’s pretty fun to hike with what sounds like reindeer!
Vail is beautiful this time of year. Flowers are in bloom, snow melt has all flashed through the streams, and it’s all very lush and gorgeous. Jenny took some pictures this weekend, and this one was even chosen to be published in the local newspaper! It features some Columbines which are the state flower of Colorado.
Since the 4th fell in the middle of the week, Jenny scheduled work up in the mountains all Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. Being up here all week was a very nice treat. We got in lots of miles, sat by the river, and just totally blissed out. Nothing is better than the high country in the summer!
