Puppy making is hard work! Halo rests up in a double bed with her favorite hedgehog pants!
Well, everyone cross your fingers because Halo has been bred to Kai! As we mentioned, Kai was a stud dog Halo chose for herself, so we were hopeful that we could do a live breeding versus artificial insemination. And boy did we ever!
Halo decided to do all this when Jenny was home in El Paso as her sister was visiting from Thailand. Couldn’t really skip that trip home for Father’s Day! But luckily, we have some very capable friends that were able to step in and help Marc get it done!
Friday, her progesterone was 5.3, Jenny got the call right as she was headed to the airport. Of course, this would be the day when Tad (Kai’s owner, also Karma’s co-owner) was flying out to take his other boy Gus to a hunt test. But Tad somehow figured out a way to get up to our house (45 minute drive) with Kai, have his friend Meg (who we’ve never met, but apparently she breeds Wheatons) meet him there and together they were able to get the breeding done.
Saturday, Marc headed down to Tad’s house (remember Tad is out of town) where our friend Mary (Mastiff and French Bulldog breeder) met him to help out. Randy (Tad’s partner) brought out Kai, and the three of them were successful in getting tie #2!
Yesterday after work, Jenny went down with Halo to Tad’s house. Kai was waiting at the back door!! He and Halo have figured out our system. Tie #3 was successful. We called Kathy (Halo’s breeder) to let her know all was squared away with 3 successful ties and she suggested we let them go at it again today if they were still interested. So back down to Tad’s house again today, and sure enough, she did not tell Kai no!
Kai waiting patiently at the back door! So funny!
If this pregnancy doesn’t take, it certainly won’t be due to the quantity of sperm she received! Now we wait until our confirmatory ultrasound on July 12!
