Today was a big day for Renata, who had an appointment to get her staples out and a visit with the Physical Therapist scheduled. We were very impressed with Renata who didn’t try pulling her staples out and was able to hang out for the last two weeks without a cone on. This would never happen with Indy. He can’t be trusted for 2 minutes without his cone on! Renata was a perfect patient and let those staples do their job and the Veterinarian said everything looks great! She can now go on 10 minute on-leash walks, but still no running or jumping. The PT gave us some exercises to do with her to help build back up her muscle mass. Hopefully, in another 4 weeks she will be as good as new!
After work, Jenny got a call from her bestie Dan who wanted to go on a hike just outside Red Rocks. Since Marc wasn’t back yet with Renny, Jenny loaded up Indy and Karma and headed over to meet Dan and his black lab Kona. Incidentally, Kona and Schmavitz are best buddies (Dan was Jenny’s first friend when she moved to Colorado back in 2003!) but much to Kona’s dismay Schmav had to stay home — can’t ever be too sure about coyotes (and other wild critters) in new places!
Dan is co-founder of this amazing website, www.panorak.com, which is an outdoor adventuring website. Panorak has all kinds of great trails uploaded and they are marked with wether or not they are pet friendly, so it makes it super easy to plan a hike. Dan sent over this link, and it provided everything we needed to get there. Jenny was even able to just hit “click here for driving directions” and we were hooked up with directions to the trail. Super cool right?
So, Jenny, Karma, and Indy met up with Dan and Kona in the parking lot and we headed out along the trail. There were lots of compliments on our “great dogs” which is always nice to hear. The three pups had a blast running the trail and playing in the creek, especially fetching sticks out of the water! The whole experience would have been perfect if it weren’t for the two garter snakes — eww, eww, eww!
Sufficiently exhausted, K & I slept the whole way back home. Once back, Jenny and Marc loaded up Renata to go visit with Cory and Rena! We were tasked with doing their home visit for Rescue and couldn’t have been more excited. It was great to visit with them again, and they were very happy to see how well Renata is recovering. It’s funny when you have a dog living with you, you don’t always notice the day to day differences. But Cory and Rena noticed right away how much better she is doing with her leg, even putting a little weight on it now and then. Renata is such a lucky girl to have so many people vested in her good health. We also were able to meet their 2 year-old Weim mix, Ajax, who was super cute and playful! We think he needs a Vizsla brother or sister to call his own 🙂
Below are some camera phone pictures of the hike —
