Oh my goodness…what a crazy day! Jenny had been in St. Louis for Pi Beta Phi Officer Training since Wednesday, but didn’t want to miss out on a whole weekend of agility with the Karm. To make this happen, she caught a 6:15am (5:15 in Denver) flight and planned to meet Marc off I-70 to grab Karma on the way down to Castle Rock. However, when Jenny landed (at 7:20am) and called Marc to rendezvous, he surprised her by saying he was already on the way down to Castle Rock with Karm in tow!
Luckily, the 20” dogs were running later in the day, but the bad news was that we were in all 3 rings in less than a 15 minute time span. This was a new challenge for Jenny. Usually there is plenty of time to walk courses, take time getting Karma ready, and mentally prepping to run — but not today. It went a little like this:
Walk T2B Course, leave a little early, grab Karma, come back and run (one of the first 10 in the ring). Put Karma back in her crate. Run inside and walk JWW course for two minutes, leave walk-thru early to walk Standard course. Leave course early to get Karma — we were 3rd in the ring. Run Standard, give Karma a few treats on the way to the next ring, rest for 2 minutes while other dogs are running. Run in JWW. It went by very quickly!!
Our Time to Beat run was fun and fast! Karma actually ended up in the 4th fastest time! This is huge since the 20” class is usually the fastest, largest, and most competitive. Our friends Dale and Chili actually had the second fastest time, so we were pretty excited that there were two Vizslas in the top 4! It also made Jenny realize that if she can get it together out there, she and Karma can be competitive! Her smokin’ fast time was within 20% of MCT (if you need an explanation, click here) so not only did she get her second T2B Q, but she picked up 8 points!
Standard was good through the first 9 obstacles, but then Jenny did a front before the weaves and didn’t give Karma a good visual on the entrance. Bummer…it would have been nice to finish that AX title!
And then as mentioned, a quick two minutes later we were in the ring for Jumpers. Karma was noticeably slower, but she picked it up and then made a huge save at the triple — scary place for a save! But with a clean run, Karma earned her 2nd MXJ leg in as many attempts! Pretty cool!
Below are links to her runs from the weekend…enjoy!
