OMG! What a day we had at the Rocky Mountain Vizsla Club Designated Specialty! For those who are new to dog shows, a specialty happens when a local club sponsors the event and it usually includes good prizes and fancy ribbons. It also usually means there is a larger entry, and today was no different! Today also happened to be the debut for Maggie and Catherine in the show ring, so it was a big day all around.
Louie’s parents (Bo & Lauren) are vacationing this week, and we are puppy sitting, so we entered Louie to support the specialty too. Boys always go first, so our little Lou took a twirl around the ring with Jenny in the Bred-By class and walked out with a third place ribbon.
Maggie was in the ring next in the 9-12 month class. Catherine did a spectacular job — moved her at just the right pace, didn’t lose her cool when Maggie got the wiggles, and walked out with a 1st place blue ribbon! That win would put her in contention for Winners Bitch! Finally, it was Cheeky’s turn, and she and Jenny managed a 2nd place in the Bred-By bitch class! Not too shabby for the babies, a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbon!
After Winners Bitch, Karma and Jenny hit the ring for the Veteran Bitch class. Karma moved spectacularly and ended up winning the class! This meant she would head back in the ring with all the specials for Best of Breed!
In the Breed ring, the boys were up first and making the cut was Fin, who is the half brother of The Baby Halos and who finished in Casper on our trip a couple weeks ago! Then the girls went in and Karma made the cut out of all the females with our friends Michelle/Naomi and Leah/Poppy! Then judge Helen Dorrance brought the boys back in the ring and pointed out Fin and his Breeder, Sarah Barr, for the win! Sarah was instrumental with helping us whelp The Baby Halos a year ago, and seeing her get this win was thrilling! And then for the cherry on top, Karma received an Award of Merit! Probably the most thrilling win of Jenny’s life winning this award with her very special heart dog.
